Committed to the environment
As a manufacturer of high-quality wooden panels, the environmentally friendly use of natural resources is not merely an empty phrase for MDF Hallein but a true concern of the management. Thus, alongside the needs for a state-of-the-art production, a progressive technology in terms of the environment and energy supply has constituted a major factor even at the stage when the plant was initially conceived.
For covering its thermal energy needs, the plant draws almost exclusively on biogenic fuels, which are renewable and CO2 neutral. Thus a valuable contribution is made to the reduction of greenhouse gases and for the stabilization of the climate, in contrast to the usage of fossil energy sources. For the reduction of energy needs, great efforts have been made for an efficient use and recovery of heat.
Beyond that, one of the main concerns of the plant is the optimization of environmental protection in the region itself. A considerable number of measures for noise protection, developed by renowned specialists directly for this application, have turned our plant into one of the quietest MDF plants in the world. An exhaust air purification system has been developed and built that was especially optimized for this application in order to minimize emissions from the production. This system set a new benchmark for MDF exhaust air purification. In addition, we were able to close all wastewater cycles with our wastewater facility, so we produce the smallest volume of wastewaster possible during normal operations.
At MDF Hallein, environmental protection is seen as an ongoing challenge. The vast majority of wood chip transports from the binderholz plant in Fügen have gone by railway since October 2005; this applies likewise to the transports from the Kösching plant (Germany) since August 2006. In the process, we have managed a release of at least 50 trucks a day.
